The Challenges to Discover the Mystery as Reflected in N or M? by Agatha Christie





ABSTRACT


In this research, the researcher tries to analyze a novel entitled N or M? by Agatha Christie under psychological analysis. The objectives of this research are  (1) to describe the challenges of a couple to discover the mystery and (2) to describe the man and the woman called N or M as reflected in the novel of Agatha Christie’s N or M?.
In this research the researcher uses psychological approach to analyze the challenges of a couple to discover the mystery and to know who the man is and who the woman is. The essential subject in this research is the novel entitled N or M?. To collect the data, the researcher visits the libraries; she does critical reading of the novel and writes several related books. Besides using library, she takes the data from the internet to get some information of the novel completely. After the data are collected they are analyzed. To analyze the data the researcher also uses descriptive qualitative method to give clear explanation of the problem statements.

Some research in findings of this research is as follows: (1) the challenges of the couple to discover the mystery as reflected in N or M? written by Agatha Christie can be explained as follows. The challenge to know the problem; the challenge to take observation of the scene of the crime including observation in the place of crime and investigate towards the suspicious matter; the challenge to interrogation the witness and available suspect; being another person including the good discovering, a lying person, and carefulness when talking or doing something; the collaboration to analyze the collecting data including the cooperation between Tommy and Tuppence, the selection of false information, and the difficulty to analyze; and (2)  the man called N is Mr. Commander Haydock and the woman  called M is Mrs. Sport Betty’s false mother.
