Robin Cook's Coma: A Psychological Approach

ABSTRACT


In this research, the writer tries to analyze a novel entitled Coma by Robin Cook under psychological analysis. The objectives of this research are (1) to describe the ways of commit the murder, (2) to describe the murder suspect, and (3) to describe the background the mysterious murder in the novel Coma.
In this research the writer uses psychological approach to analyze the character of Susan Wheeler when motivated to investigation the mystery. The essential subject in this research is the novel entitles Coma. To collect the data, the writer visits the libraries, does critical reading of the novel and writes several related books. Besides using library, the writer takes the data from the internet to get some information of the novel completely. After the data are collected they are analyzed. To analyze the data the writer also uses descriptive qualitative and quantitative technique to give clear explanation of the problem statements.
Some research findings of this research are as follows: First, Susan’s characterizations as reflected in Robin Cook Coma are smart, diligent, attractive, honest, second, represented an intellectual challenge, help Nancy Greenly who has the same age with Susan, knowing the healthy patient of Sean Berman become Coma, Susan feels something was wrong in Boston Memorial Hospital (knows the new disease, something stranger in Memorial Hospital about coma, Susan attacked), and third, moral values from the novel the positive aspect education, responsibility, friendship, heroism. The negative aspect is doing not break the rule.
